Green Bay, WI – October 4, 2016 – Today at Lambeau Field, Packers linebacker, Jake Ryan joined Visa, the Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions and the Governor’s Council on Financial Literacy to inform educators and community leaders of a resource available statewide at the 6th Annual Wisconsin Summit on Financial Literacy.

We are most effective at spreading the message of sound money management when we work together,” said Hugh Norton, Head of U.S. Financial Education, Visa Inc. “We are proud to join with Wisconsin’s Department of Financial Institutions, the Governor’s Council on Financial Literacy and the NFL with the shared goal of improving the financial literacy of all Wisconsinites.”
“Financial Football is an exciting way to get young people involved in personal finance and help develop a personal finance playbook,” said David Mancl, Director of the Office of Financial Literacy, Department of Financial Institutions. “We want to make sure everyone knows about this free, easily accessible program.”
At Lambeau Field, Jake Ryan, representatives from the Department of Financial Institutions and Visa rolled up their sleeves to face off with teams of educators in a hard-fought, high-energy game of Financial Football. Ryan also shared his personal insights on the importance of teaching students proper money management skills.
“UW Credit Union is a strong advocate of financial education and helping young people learn early how important it is to make good financial decisions,” said Jaimes Johnson, Director of Community Partnerships, UW Credit Union, and member of the Governor’s Council on Financial Literacy. “Financial Football teaches financial skills that will last a lifetime. UW Credit Union is proud to work with Visa and the Department of Financial Institutions to support this initiative.”
“On or off the field, practice and teamwork are the key to success. It is important to start teaching young people how to manage their money early in life,” said Jake Ryan. Government and companies working together to support, parents, teachers and mentors within the community can give kids the strong background in financial education they need to be successful.”
In its tenth season, Financial Football is the centerpiece of Visa’s nationwide education initiative, with the NFL and NFL PLAYERS, designed to help students tackle their futures. Financial Football is available online at wisconsin.financialfootball.com and puts students’ fiscal knowledge to the test in a simulation game environment by combining the structure and rules of the NFL with financial education questions varying in difficulty. Visa has also released the game as a free Android or iOS app.

The game is accompanied by a classroom curriculum and has been distributed to high schools and middle schools in 49 states including Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Wyoming, and the District of Columbia since Financial Football’s launch in 2006.
